Margaret F. Carter, MD, is passionate about supporting pregnant women – both through her career as a physician with Huntsville Hospital Maternal Fetal Medicine and through philanthropy with Huntsville Hospital Foundation.

“Babies are always a blessing, and most pregnancies are uncomplicated. However, when a complicated pregnancy occurs, it can be horrific for a woman and her family,” Dr. Carter said. “As a high-risk pregnancy physician, I witness the devastation firsthand, and I understand how important it is to support the impacted women and their families.”

Dr. Carter values that her donations to Huntsville Hospital Foundation help support her hospital and patients in a multitude of ways.

“My HHF financial giving helps fill healthcare gaps, such as buying new equipment, items to support inpatients, and COVID-related needs,” she said.  “Filling healthcare gaps is essential and impacts the health of all in the community. Having a healthy community leads to prosperity.”

In 2021, HHF hosted its first “For the Mamas” fundraiser for the Antepartum unit at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children, which cares for high-risk pregnancies and women with postpartum complications. Dr. Carter was instrumental in this effort.

“I spend a great deal of time taking care of patients at the hospital. I enjoy what I do for people, and I am grateful to be helpful to others during such a challenging time in their lives,” Dr. Carter shared. “Seeing patients have good medical outcomes is what brings me joy.”

Dr. Carter also enjoys supporting women in her community through HHF signature events like the Liz Hurley Ribbon Run, and it is a fun way for her to get her entire family involved with the cause.

“Setting up the Liz Hurley Ribbon Run team, raising money, and having my friends and family participate in the event gives me the most joy. Until COVID, my family looked forward to participating in the Ribbon Run every year, and they look forward to resuming the tradition for 2022. There is not a person who I know that has not been impacted by breast cancer, if not directly then indirectly.”

Because of Dr. Carter’s cumulative giving, she is a member of HHF’s Societies of 1895 & 2012 and the White Coat Society. She has also served as an HHF Trustee since July 2020.

“I am grateful to be able to give,” she said. “Giving is the least that I can do for the community.”
