Local news anchor, Liz Hurley, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. She established the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund in 1999 to support programs that create awareness about breast cancer, and to purchase diagnostic equipment for Huntsville Hospital Breast Center. In 2004, Liz and the Foundation – in partnership with the Huntsville Track Club – created the Liz Hurley Ribbon Run, an annual event which raises funds to provide diagnostic equipment for the Huntsville and Madison Hospital Breast Centers, as well as funding for a patient assistance fund and the Surviving & Thriving program for breast cancer survivors.
“Surviving breast cancer was a defining event in my life. God has blessed me with almost 20 more years with my family. I felt then, and still feel now, He gave me a platform to help others, and Huntsville Hospital Foundation is the vehicle that allows me to do it. The community support is bigger than I ever imagined. Women are getting diagnosed earlier and living longer thanks to the money raised.”
