October 21, 2023

Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s Liz Hurley Ribbon Run is back in person to run for the future! Thank you to everyone who registered for the 19th annual run, Saturday, Oct. 15. The Survivors' Walk begins at 8 a.m. and the 5K starts at 8:30 a.m.

Proceeds from the 2022 Liz Hurley Ribbon Run will provide for the top-priority needs of Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children’s Breast Center, including necessary Dense Breast Software upgrades to better pinpoint which patients need additional levels of cancer screening for accurate diagnosis. With donor support, HHF will also launch the brand-new Breast Cancer Patient Experience Project, focused on improving each patient’s comfort and surroundings while in the Breast Center. The goal of these enhancements is to reduce the anxiety and fear that sometimes accompany these procedures.

$290,000 in net proceeds purchased two mammography machine software upgrades for the Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children Breast Center. This upgraded technology means higher-resolution images, improved cancer detection and a likely decrease in the number of false positive examinations.

"When I went to the Surviving and Thriving program, none of us in that room had the same type of breast cancer; none of us had the same treatment. But, we had all heard those three scary words – ‘you have cancer.’ When I asked where the funds for the program came from, and they said the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund, I was so thankful to see the positive and tangible impact of the Ribbon Run. Every penny stays here and goes to the front lines of the fight. I owe this fund my life."
