Dr. Frank Crim Compassion Fund for Children with Cancer

The Crim Fund was established in honor of Dr. Frank Crim by lifelong friends, Betty and Phil Bentley. The fund provides for the special needs of local children with cancer and blood disorders treated at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children’s St. Jude Affiliate Clinic.

Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund

Amy and Chris George established the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund in memory of their infant daughter Melissa Suzanne. The fund has raised more than $3.2 million since 2005 to purchase equipment for the NICU and to provide support for families of premature infants.

Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund

Liz Hurley established the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund in 1999 to support programs that raise awareness about breast cancer. To date, more than $4.5 million has been raised to equip Huntsville Hospital and Madison Hospital Breast Centers with the latest diagnostic technology.

The Wells Clayton Whitworth Memorial Fund

The Wells Clayton Whitworth Memorial Fund was founded in 2018 by Kelley and Chad Whitworth, in memory of their son Wells. Wells was stillborn on June 11, 2018. Through this immeasurable pain and loss, Kelley and Chad are working to honor their son by providing financial assistance for burial and bereavement services for families in need after the loss of a newborn.

Endowed Named Funds


You may establish an endowed fund with a minimum gift of $25,000 in support a hospital program or department that is meaningful to you. The Foundation administers the endowed named funds, which provide funding for the hospital in perpetuity. The Leonard & Ila Mitchum Cardiovascular Fund

This fund provides state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment for Huntsville Hospital’s Cardiology departments. The Mitchums’ million dollar gift was given in gratitude for the care Leonard received when he had open-heart surgery at Huntsville Hospital.

Robin Lanier Stewart Memorial Fund

This fund was established by oncologists who worked with Robin, and was later endowed by the Lanier family. The fund provides financial assistance to patients who need help paying medication costs associated with their cancer treatment.

Ruth B. Camp Scholarship Fund

The Camp Fund was established by Dr. E.E. Camp in honor of his wife, Ruth, who was a pediatric nurse. Dr. and Mrs. Camp are now deceased, but their fund continues to provide college scholarships to nursing students.

Ronald S. Owen Scholarship Fund

Ron Owen, a former Huntsville Hospital administrator, established this fund to provide college scholarships to deserving children of Huntsville Hospital employees.

Betty Jones Memorial Heart Fund

This fund was established in Betty’s memory by her family and friends. It provides funding for equipment, research and training, and supports special needs of the Cardiology program at Huntsville Hospital.

Delta Zeta Endowment Fund

This fund was established by the local alumnae chapter to benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Audiology program at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children.

Donny Derivaux Memorial Fund

This fund was established by Donny’s parents, Rebecca and Dr. Don Derivaux, to provide financial assistance to parents who struggle to be with their seriously ill children during hospitalization.

Fred Wessel Cardiac Rehabilitation Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Mr. Wessel by his wife Jean Wessel Templeton and his three children, this fund provides financial assistance to patients who otherwise would not be able to participate in the Cardiac Rehabilitation program at Huntsville Hospital.

Mary Sylvia Whitten Memorial Fund

This fund was established in memory of Mrs. Whitten to provide funds for cardiac care equipment at Huntsville Hospital.

Otis F. & Clare H. Gay Fund for Children

Dr. Gay, Madison County’s longtime Public Health Officer, established this fund in memory of his wife, Clare. The fund benefits the nurseries and Pediatric units at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children.

Mary Elizabeth & George Gesman Alzheimer’s Symposium Fund

Mr. Gesman established this fund in memory of his wife. The fund provides an annual symposium focused on Alzheimer’s disease awareness and treatment for physicians, clinical staff and caregivers.

Dr. Bill V. Hewett and Bradley Hewett Memorial Scholarship Fund

Marie Hewett established this fund to provide scholarships for medical students and students pursuing nursing degrees.

Thomas and Sharon Bell Radiology Education Fund

Dr. and Mrs. Bell established this fund to provide scholarships for deserving students attending Huntsville Hospital’s School of Radiologic Technology.

Sarah and Carl Gessler Cardiac Education Fund

Dr. and Mrs. Gessler established this fund to provide continuing education scholarships for Huntsville Hospital Cardiology employees who meet established criteria.

The Charles Michael & Elizabeth Park Scholl Neonatal ICU Education Fund

Dr. and Mrs. Brian Scholl established this fund in honor of their daughter Elizabeth, and in memory of her brother Charles Michael who passed away shortly after birth. The fund provides scholarships for deserving employees in the Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and reference books, journals, and other educational resources for the NICU staff.

The Dr. Jeanne Shepherd Cancer Fund

The fund was established in 2001 by the physicians and staff at The Center for Cancer Care in honor of Jeanne Shepherd, a longtime employee who succumbed to cancer in 2011. The Shepherd Fund provides cancer patients with financial assistance for housing needs, prescription medication, transportation and other health care expenses.

The Meena Dayal Memorial Education Fund

Dr. and Mrs. Peter Loux endowed the Dayal fund in memory anesthesiologist Dr. Meena Dayal who passed away in 2012. The fund provides college scholarships for deserving employees in Huntsville Hospital’s perioperative medicine departments.

Cortner’s Magic Pocket: The Crumlish-McCrary Fund Benefiting the Huntsville Hospital Health System

This fund was endowed in honor of 2003 Neonatal ICU “graduate” Cortner Crumlish by his parents, grandparents, great-aunt and great-uncle. Cortner’s Magic Pocket provides technology and programs that will enhance the delivery of health care.

The Olin B. King Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund was endowed by the family of community leader Olin King who passed away in 2012. To extend Olin’s legacy of support for education and health care, the fund provides scholarships to deserving Huntsville Hospital employees pursuing graduate degrees in nursing.

The Doris V. & Dr. Everett C. Mosley Scholarship Fund

This fund provides annual scholarships to deserving students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree who are a Huntsville Hospital employee working in a non-clinical area, a Surgery Department employee working in either Surgery or Anesthesia, or a child or grandchild of an employee.
